About downloading from YouTube

Paste a watch link, a youtu.be short link or a Shorts link, and the available qualities are listed with their file sizes so you can pick before committing to the download. Ordinary videos and Shorts both work.

YouTube changes its playback layer often and throttles automated requests hard, so this is the one source here where a link can work in the morning and fail in the afternoon. When that happens it is a YouTube-side change, and it usually resolves once our extractor catches up.

YouTube downloader questions

Is downloading from YouTube allowed?

YouTube's Terms of Service only permit it for your own uploads, for content offered under a licence that allows it, or with the rights holder's permission. This page is a technical tool; deciding whether a particular download is lawful is on you. We do not handle movies, series or paid courses.

Why are 4K or 1080p options sometimes missing?

Above 1080p YouTube almost always splits video and audio into separate files that have to be merged afterwards, which needs a server-side encoder. When that is unavailable we list only the qualities that arrive as a single ready-to-play file, so you never end up with a silent video.

Can I get just the subtitles or the audio?

Download the video first, then open it in the audio workbench: it extracts the audio track as MP3 or WAV, and can transcribe speech into timed text you can export as SRT or VTT. That step runs entirely inside your browser.

A link that used to work now fails. What changed?

Almost always something on YouTube's side — it rotates its playback signatures frequently and rate-limits requests from datacentre addresses. Retrying a few minutes later helps; a persistent failure means our extractor needs an update.
